Dharamshala is a city in the upper reaches of the Kangra valley and is surrounded by dense coniferous forest consisting mainly of stately Deodar cedar trees. This is a hill station lying on the spur of the Dhauladhar range about 17 km’s north east of Kangra town. The people visit this places for many reasons which includes scenic beauty, Adventure sport activities while exploring the culture. Dharamshala is also referred to as Mcleodganj is the major tourist attraction, as it is home to the Dalai Lama and magnificent Buddhist hermitages.

Dharamshala has an average elevation of 1457 m covering an area of almost 8.51 Km. Dharamshala is located in the Kangra valley , in the shadow of the Dhauladhar mountains.

How To Reach

  • By Air :- There are three Domestic Airports that connect Himachal Pradesh to the Rest of the country. These are located at Kullu-Manali, Dharamshala and Shimla. The Airports have flights from Delhi and Chandigarh. The nearest Airport is Kangra Airport just 12 Kms from Dharamshala town, 20Kms From Mcleodganj. You can conveniently travel via air and get down to the airport and closet to the cities you wish to visit.
  • By Train :- The nearest Railway station is Kangra, 17 Kms from Dharamshala connected through Pathankot through narrow gauge line from Kangra you can get a bus easily every 15 minutes to Dharamshala and the nearest broad gauge railway station is Pathankot which about 95 Km from Dharamshala and then take bus or a taxi.
  • By Road :- Distance from Delhi to Dharamshala is 526 Km approx. 7 to 8 hours journey and overnight journey. Bus to Dharmshala, Mcleodganj and Kangra.
